Season 2 of the adventure series Smallville premiered on 24th September 2002. The season aired a total of twenty-three episodes. In the first episode, Clark saves Lana from a tornado and returns home to learn about the release of the spaceship while Jonathan is buried alive with Nixon and Lex feels guilty about not being able to help his critically wounded father in time. Clark goes to save Jonathan, but feels weak under the influence of meteor rocks and is kidnapped by Nixon, who ends up being killed by Lex. During a heat wave, Clark develops a new power that enables him to use his eyes to produce heat bursts while Lex marries a woman named Desiree Atkins, who has the power to control men. She tries to control Clark, but fails in her attempt and persuades Jonathan to kill Lex, who is saved by Clark.

Pete finds the spaceship which forces Clark to reveal his secret to his best friend. Dr. Hamilton who suffers form repeated exposure to meteor rock radiation, steals Clark’s ship and after being rebuffed by Lex, seeks the help of Lionel. He also kidnaps Pete to learn how to open the ship and when Clark comes to Pete’s rescue, he suffers from deadly convulsions upon confronting Dr. Hamilton. Clark experiences the effects of red kryptonite for the first time when he wears a ring containing the stone, which brings out his evil side. Lex confronts Lionel who starts taking over the manor while Lana refuses to accept Clark’s apology for his unaccountable behavior during the time he wore the ring. Lana learns about a boy named Byron, who is abused by his parents as they keep him imprisoned in their basement, and she seeks the help of Clark to rescue him. However, the boy turns into a monster on being exposed to sunlight while Lionel hires Martha as his assistant. A student ages to 60 years in a matter of seconds and Chloe and Clark find the criminal to be Chrissie “Missy” Parker who then tries to kill the new principal, but is stopped by Clark and is forced to deteriorate into dust.
